What is Mity-Gro?

Mity-Gro is an organic soil innoculant containing a unique and beneficial soil micro-organism. This friendly non-toxic micro-organism has been present in its natural state for many millennia. Found in a farming community in Iceland in the early 1980's, it was selectively cultured to perform its distinctive role by Agro-Dynamics International. Please note that Mity-Gro is not a subject of Bio-engineering. Unlike chemical fertilizers, Mity-Gro will neither damage nor injure the soil nor negatively impact the environment. Mity-Gro improves overall plant health. Both commercial growers and home gardeners have achieved excellent results.   Mity-Gro can also be used in hydroponics applications for  increased production.  Dramatic increases in growth have been documented by laboratory tests. 

From September to December 1996, Mity-Gro™ was applied to seven vegetable crops at Ju zi Fang Village in the Chao Yang district of Beijing City. The seven vegetables are muskmelon, greenhouse cucumber, tomato, strawberry, anise, Chinese cabbage and rape. In general, Mity-Gro™ promoted the growth of the tested seven vegetables and plants mentioned above. The most noted effects were: that treated plants ripped earlier(3-10 days), that yields increased between 12-30%, and that treated plants were stronger and more resistant to disease, especially on bokchoy, plus the incidence of "soft rot" disease was reduced by 15%.   You may view the complete report here.

What Results Can I Expect with Mity-Gro?

The above results have been achieved under controlled testing and also by production growers. There are many factors in plant production that fall within the skill level of the grower / manager such as light regulation, proper water scheduling and climate control to name a few. What does Mity-Gro Do?

Mity-Gro's bacterium (Bacillus Laterosporus BOD strain) works by accelerating the photsynthetic process. The millions of nitrogen fixing bacteria release high energy nutrients and supply essential nitrogen for optimum growth. It also rejuvenates and conditions the soil.  By stabilization of the pH factor at 8.1+ .05 Mity-Gro has the ability to maintain the hydrogen ion concentration within the alkaline range. This is accomplished by releasing carbonate and other products.

By an increase in nitrogen (ordorous) which is normally released into the atmoshpere, is being withheld and is converted to nitrate nitrogen which is readily assimilated by the plants. Potassium and phosphorous become more insoluble in a high alkaline soil, and therefore become "fixed" and are prevented from leaching off.

How Safe is Mity-Gro?

Mity-Gro is a friendly non-toxic organic bacteria which is 100 % environmentally safe for humans or pets. It is used to treat intestinal problems, however Mity-Gro agriculture grade is not recommended for human consumption.
No precautions need be taken when mixing or applying this product.
It will not burn roots, branches, leaves flowers. Nor is it harmful to fruits and vegetables.

Applications and Cautions

Application rates are given in generalities. Soil conditions can vary so greatly from grower to grower that exact proportions and response times can only be determined after soil analysis.

In general:

1 part Mity-Gro to 30/50 parts of water initial watering
1 part Mity-Gro to 50/100 parts of water apply at each watering
Field crops use 1 gallon per acre apply at soil preparation
1 gallon per acre apply when "Watering In"
Thereafter use 1/2 gallon per acre apply Bi-monthly

 

Mixing and Application: Instructions for Mity-Gro (Bacillus Laterosporus BOD Strain) for Hydroponics applications

Super Concentrate BOD strain

You are being supplied with jars of dry powder mix containing super concentrated Bacillus Laterosporus BOD strain bacterium. Each jar contains powder weighing 124 grams. To make liquid concentrate, make sure that all the mixing tools are clean and that staff wear clean coveralls and face masks. Use a sterile plastic acontainer for storing the mixture. Empty the contents of the Mity-Gro jar in 4 litres of sterilized water and stir or agitate until the contents are completely dissolved. This Mity-Gro liquid mixture
is now ready for use. It has a plate count of 50,000,000 spores per millilitre +-10%.
Store out of direct sunlight at room temperature or lower (BOD spores will begin to die off at temperatures above 82 degrees Celsius-they are not affected by freezing). Keep the container sealed or tightly closed when stored. This liquid mixture must be agitated before use as the BOD strain has a tendency to settle to the bottom of the container when left
sitting for any length of time.
 
Hydroponics Application: Inject 1 litre of Mity-Gro liquid for every 10,000 litres of water/nutrient mixture in the system (Mity-Gro is compatible with water-soluble fertilizers). Ensure that the Mity-Gro is circulated to the entire root zone area covered by the 10,000 litres of hydroponics water/nutrient mixture. Repeat every 15 days, injecting 500 millilitresof Mity-Gro liquid per 10,000 litres of water mixture, until harvest.
